Break-even vs target price
The break-even price covers your costs and fees exactly. The target price adds the profit margin you want on top. Knowing both tells you how much room you have to compete on price. Already know your sale price? Use the eBay fee calculator instead, or read eBay seller fees explained.
Profit calculator FAQ
How do I calculate profit on eBay?
Start from the sale price, subtract eBay's fees (roughly 13.6% of the total plus about $0.30 per order in many categories), then subtract your item cost and any shipping you pay. What's left is your profit. This tool works it backwards: from your costs and target margin, it tells you what to list at.
What is a break-even price?
Your break-even price is the sale price at which your profit is exactly zero — fees and costs are fully covered but you make nothing. List above it to make a profit; below it, you lose money on the sale.
How much profit margin should I aim for on eBay?
It varies by category and business model, but many sellers target 15–30% net margin after fees. Thinner margins can work at high volume; higher margins suit lower-volume, higher-value items.
